Top Things to Sell on Etsy

While Etsy has been around since 2005, it’s only recently that I’ve started using it for more than the passing purchase of a handmade gift or funny birthday card. Over the last few months I’ve been browsing Etsy more than ever to discover gorgeous handmade homeware, prints, gifts and digital products.

I haven’t only been browsing, either. I’ve recently been inspired (after watching some classes on Skillshare) to start a small Etsy store selling printables. This year I wanted to expand my business efforts to include more creative things, so creating things to sell on Etsy felt like a fun way of doing just that. I’ll share more of this with you once I’ve experimented with it a little!

Interesting things to sell on Etsy

If you’re thinking of selling on Etsy too you might be wondering what you could sell. Here are some ideas of interesting things to sell on Etsy to inspire you.

Printables

One of the easiest things to sell on Etsy, in my opinion, is printables. These are digital goods that you create on your computer which are then sent to the buyer to download and print at home. This is perfect if you love creating but don’t want to deal with the hassle of arranging printers and managing the supply chain, packing and posting of items.

You could create and sell a printable for almost anything on Etsy. Popular categories include printables for blogging, home organisation, cleaning, party planning, wedding planning and budgeting. You could make to-do lists, planners, workbooks, games, goal trackers and more.

As well as activity printables, you could also turn some of your artwork into a printable file. This is a great way to offer an affordable alternative to traditionally printed items.

Artwork

I touched on art above, but it deserves its own section. If you’re an artist, graphic designer or aspiring to be one, you could sell your artwork on Etsy.

There’s a huge mix of artwork for sale on the marketplace, with everything ranging from affordable nursery prints to bespoke pet portraits.

Jewellery

Another popular thing to sell on Etsy is jewellery. If you have a talent for creating handmade jewellery there’s a thriving audience online waiting to snap up something interesting, unique and beautiful.

There are makers selling rings, earrings, necklaces and other items every day on the platform, with plenty of opportunity to jump in and make a name for yourself.

Greeting cards

When I’m looking for a fun, interesting or unique greetings card Etsy is the first place I look now. I’ve found some of the best birthday cards there, alongside creative gifts for friends and family.

There’s such a treasure trove of designs available, with that handmade touch that feels special when you’re celebrating someone’s birthday, engagement or new home.

Clothing and accessories

It takes a real talent to be able to create clothing and accessories from fabrics, leather and other materials. If this is something you shine in, you could find an audience for your wares on Etsy.

While Etsy is often thought of as the perfect place to score the perfect vintage find, there’s plenty of space for makers of modern clothing too. Everyday outfits, bridesmaids dresses and costumes are all popular things to sell on Etsy.

Party supplies

For those who love to go all-out for a birthday or want to create a themed celebration for a life event, party decor is a must-buy. Etsy gives you the perfect platform to reach these people, so if you create party decor or supplies it’s well worth a look.

Celebrations are an area that we tend to spend more on, so creating gorgeous wedding invitations or bright, fun bunting for children’s parties could be a great way to bring in more income and bring a smile to your buyers’ faces.

Craft supplies

With so many people creating every day, they need somewhere to buy supplies. That’s why craft supplies are one of the best things to sell on Etsy.

The craft supplies category is really flexible, covering more than you might think. While you might think of yarn or feathers to include in a creative craft project, you’ll also find digital supplies like Lightroom presets or sticker templates.

What would you sell on Etsy?

I’m really enjoying exploring selling things on Etsy as a potential side project to my business bring in more income. It’s nice to be creative every now and again and it’s really rewarding to make something useful that people go on to use.

If you could (or are going to) create an Etsy store, what would you sell? Let me know in the comments!

I hadn’t been aware of this opportunity. Thanks for the information. Good for people to be aware of this. Whilst it would also be good for people to have access to reviews of experiences. As for some they could access some much needed income, which may be particularly necessary at this time :- Due to the impact of Coronavirus (covid 19) . As for some the repercussions are having an impact on their finances, income, expenses, employment, lack of business, parental role, responsibilities, caring role, health, ill health, stress levels, etc, etc, etc.

Always happy to share things that I think can be a genuine way to increase income – sometimes it’s so hard to figure out what is and isn’t worth the time! Thank you so much for your comment – I’m going to see if I can put together a more in-depth post soon about people’s experiences of selling on Etsy and how they make it work.
