Sometimes it can be tough to stay motivated to reach your savings goals or targets. Life gets in the way and before you know it you’ve forgotten just how much you’ve saved.
An easy way to stay on track and stay focused is to use a savings tracker. This has the double benefit of being rewarding to fill out and practical because you can track how much you have left to save to reach your goal.
There are so many lovely printable savings trackers out there, but I wanted to create something a little different for those of us who prefer a digital version.
Introducing… My Savings Tracker!

What is My Savings Tracker?
This savings tracker is an interactive, editable spreadsheet that you can personalise and use to track your progress against your savings goals. You enter a savings goal and the spreadsheet will automatically work out the monthly savings targets for you.
As you hit your savings targets, you can use the check box below the month to record your progress. This gives you an easy and visible way to see how you’re doing. You can decide to save money every month or simply record progress on the months you hit your target.
The savings tracker comes with two versions – one for six months and one for 12 months. It comes undated, but you can always personalise it by changing the month title to reflect current and future months. You can even swap the colours out to make it feel more unique to you.
Which software is this savings tracker compatible with?
You won’t need to download any special software or apps to use this tracker. It’s a spreadsheet that’s compatible with both Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. This means you can use your preferred software to track your savings, without worrying about switching to a new program or using one you don’t like.
How do I download the savings tracker?
It’s easy to get started with this savings tracker. First you’ll need to join our free community, which only takes a moment. Use the form below to enter your details and you’ll be added to the list after you confirm.
Once you’ve confirmed your membership by clicking the link in your email, you’ll get a welcome email with everything you need. In this email you’ll find a link to download the Excel version and a link to open (and save a copy of) the Google Sheets version.
Everything should be straight forward, but if you need any help don’t hesitate to email me!
Which money saving projects can this tracker help with?
This tracker is fully customisable, so you can use it to track whichever project you wish. You might want to start a general savings fund for the future, or you might have a specific purchase in mind like a family car.
It’s ideal for money saving goals like:
- DIY projects
- Christmas presents
- Expensive purchases, like a car or a laptop
- House deposits (create a new tab for each year)
I’ve left a space on the tracker for you to add a sentence or two about your savings goal. I’ve found this helps me to stay focused and remember what this is all going towards.
How do I get better at saving money?
I think this is something that comes with time. It’s a big mindset shift, especially if you are coming from a place where you’ve never had money to save or you’ve always spent it.
I plan to write a post soon all about how to get better at saving money, but here are a few tips:
- Set a goal you’re passionate about reaching
- Tell other people about your goal, so they can congratulate you on your progress
- Use a savings tracker to motivate you
- Be more mindful about your spending and consider if that money could go towards your savings instead
- Set up a separate bank account just for your savings
- Set up a direct debit to this account every month, even if it’s only £1 or £5
- Look at ways you can reduce your monthly outgoings to increase your available funds
- Get competitive – see if you can challenge a friend or your partner to join you in a savings challenge
What are you saving towards?
What’s your big savings goal at the moment? Are you saving towards a home renovation project, or maybe you’re gathering funds for a big celebration? I’d love to hear if you end up using this savings tracker to help you stay motivated to reach your goal!

15 June 2020 at 9:32 pmGreat artical! I love the idea of a savings tracker. A pipe dream of ours is to own a Vw camper van. Maybe a bit pie in the sky, but if we saved and tracked our savings, no reason why we couldn’t get one.
